"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."--Isaiah 9:6
In Isaiah 9:6, which was written about 700 years before the time of Jesus, the prophet Isaiah spoke of a son who would be called "Mighty God" and "Eternal Father." Isaiah also indicated that this son would reign on the throne of King David and that this reign would be everlasting. Christians acknowledge that this prophecy is fulfilled in Jesus Christ, who is a descendant of King David, and whose reign is everlasting.
Today, the teachings of Jesus govern the lives of as many as an estimated 2 billion Christians worldwide. So, this child whose birth we celebrated on the 25th of December, we find Isaiah saying how divine our God is. So today let’s hear what the prophet says about our Savior.
Names are important to God. The bible says in Gen 1:5,8,10, God called the light “day”, and the darkness He called night, and the evening and the morning were the first day. One definition of firmament is the heavens or the sky.
God made the firmament Heaven and the evening and the morning was the second day. God called the dry ground Earth, and the gathering of the waters He called seas, and God saw that it was good. Adams first job was to name the animals.
Names often relate to some aspect of one’s birth. His name is Jesus: Jehovah Saves. The bible says in Acts 4:12: Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Paul writes in Philippians 2:10-11: “that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven and things in the earth and things under the earth. And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
There is wonder in His name! Despite all the roadblocks set before Him, He is wonderful!! His birth was wonderful, His life was wonderful, His teaching was wonderful, His miracles were wonderful. His transfiguration was wonderful, His resurrection was wonderful, His ascension was wonderful. He is wonderful!!!
As a child of the Jesus, our steps are ordered by Him. He has a specific place of blessing prepared for us. When we live a life of obedience to the Word of God, He promises to supply every one of your needs. Just as God directed Elijah in 1st Kings 17:2-4 to his place of blessing, God is directing us, too.
He’s aligning the right opportunities for us and causing the right people to come along our path to help us. He’s constantly working behind the scenes. But in order to get to that place of blessing, we have to do your part to keep our heart open and stay in step with Him.
A major key to keeping our heart in the right place is choosing peace and unity in Christ. The Bible says that when we live in unity, there He has commanded the blessing. When our heart is in the place of blessing, then the rest of our life will be in the place of blessing, too!
There is wisdom in his name “Counselor”. As our counselor he is always available, as our counselor He gives us His undivided attention, as our counselor He comforts us, as our counselor he enables us.
In the bible Colossians 3:2 says “Set your affection on things above not on things on the earth. Sometimes when people look toward the future, they don’t see how they will ever rise higher or fulfill their destiny.
That’s because they are looking at things in the earthly, natural realm. But if we’ll set our minds higher, if we’ll set our minds on things above, we will have a different perspective.
We walk by faith and not by sight. In other words, we have to believe it before we’re ever going to see it. If we walk only by what we see in the natural realm, we can easily allow circumstances and fear to keep us from moving forward. But when we set our minds higher, we are walking by faith, and we can see things God’s way.
Make the decision to set your mind on things above. Focus on the good things God has in store. Be determined to close the door on fear and doubt and choose to listen to that inner prompting of the Holy Spirit. Walk and live by faith and set your mind on higher things!
There is wealth in His name “Mighty God”, the bible says in Matthew 28:18, Jesus says “all power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
He created it all. Incredible as it may seem, the Child and Son is the Mighty God. Nothing, absolutely nothing is too hard for him.
In Amos 5:4 “For thus saith the Lord unto the house of Israel, Seek ye me and ye shall live.” The message to Israel is the same to us today, seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things hall be added unto you.
There is worship in His name, Everlasting Father He is Lord of eternity, as well as the Author of eternal life. We serve a great and mighty God! He is the Creator of the universe, the one who spoke the worlds into existence. He’s called the Great I AM, and He’s saying today, “I am everything you need. I am your strength. I am your wisdom. I am your protection. I am your provider. I am your way maker. I am your problem solver. I am your dream giver. I am your victory!” I wish there was 2 people that can testify to he is everything we need.
There is welcome in His name, The Prince of Peace. The peace of Christ is the feeling of peace that comes from choosing Christ as your highest joy and trusting that He will do everything necessary to bring you even more of His joy. And Paul calls us to “let the peace of Christ rule in our hearts.
In Philippians 4:7 we have a wonderful promise: “The peace of God, which passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” It is important to note the context of this promise, because that’s where we find the condition: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God”.
God’s peace is promised to guard those who pray—with thanksgiving—about everything. This peace will transcend our ability to understand it.
Isaiah 26:3 says “thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. This peace goes beyond human comprehension.
In the midst of the hurricane of suffering, there will be many times when you feel overwhelmed, broken down, and swallowed by grief.
We live in a sin-torn, broken world in which trouble is the norm. But just as grieving and hope can exist side-by-side, so can feelings of distress and the peace that passes understanding.
So, when you’re walking through the Valley of Death, don’t try to work yourself into a state of feeling peaceful. Your feelings will go up and down depending on 10,000 different variables. Peace that passes understanding goes beyond mere feeling. Rather, it’s a solid confidence and faith in God that allows you to say: It is well with my soul.
God loved His own and provided a way—the only Way—for us to spend eternity with Him. He gave His only Son to take our punishment for our sins. He paid the price in full, and we are free from condemnation when we accept that free gift of love.
The bible says in Romans 5:8 "But God demonstrated His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us".
I don’t know about you but, I am glad that he saved me, he loved me and provided a way that I can spend eternity with Him.
