Always

Bruce Hill

"A land which the Lord thy God careth for: the eyes of the Lord thy God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year even unto the end of the year."--Deuteronomy 11:12

Have you ever paid attention to the one-word slogan that is posted outside of every Wal-Mart Store? In big giant letters the word Always is very visible everywhere. Wal-Mart's slogan is one simple word: "Always."

For many that's a commitment that means the company can be counted on for low prices always. Open for long hours and often 24 hours. Food? Medicine? Clothing? No matter what Wal-Mart seems to have it always.

There is very little we can do in any given time that does not require the miraculous intervention of the divine. Whether it’s putting a safety net around our homes or creating opportunities for us on the job, God is busy 24 hours a day and seven days a week, making things happen for his people.  Always.

Our text focuses on Moses as he reflects on Israel's journey and considers the road ahead. Moses, at 120 years old, had a wealth of experience. He served 40 years as a prince of Egypt. He served another 40 years as a humble shepherd. He spent the last 40 years leading Israel out of Egypt toward the Promised Land. In the course of that time he saw many changes.  As they paused, just before going into the Promised Land, Moses wrote, through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the Book of Deuteronomy. The name means A Second look. In it, he reminds them where they had been and then points them to where they are going.

In our text, he notes that where they are going is different from where they have been.  Moses warned the people that as things change and opportunities of the future avail themselves, to remain faithful to God. He warned them not to forget where they had come from, and how they made it to their present destination. The only way they could lose the benefit of God's blessings would be to turn to ungodly living. Change is going to come, Moses said, but the people should not change their belief and faith in God. Things will change, but despite the difficulties of the unknown, there was one certainty; God would be with them, always. He’s always there!

Every morning God has new blessings in store for us! Every morning believers should awaken with anticipation, “What great blessing does God have in store for me today our health, comfort, care and leisure?" We know God has something new because the bible says in Lamentations 3:21 says, “They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” God has a new healing in store for us, Always! God has a new financial blessing in store for us, Always! God has a new restoration in store for us, Always! The knowledge that our God never closes is reaffirmed in Psalm 121 when David wrote, “He that keepeth Israel neither slumbers or sleeps.” He’s always open, 24/7 and 365 days a year. We know that no matter what comes, our God will always be by our side and has promised never to leave us alone! To our Lord and Savior be glory Always!
