I received a book for Father’s Day entitled: “If God Is Good: Faith in the Midst of Suffering and Evil”, by Randy Alcorn. As I read through the introduction, the last paragraph caught my attention, and I wanted to share with you.
The last paragraph stated that God’s Word is central to gaining an eternal perspective. In times of crisis we try to make sense of life. The author stated we crave perspective for our minds and relief for our hearts. We need our worldview realigned by God’s inspired Word. The Bible says in 2nd Timothy 3:16, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for the doctrine, for reproof for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”
The author stated that he quoted Scripture frequently in this book. He mentions Isaiah 55:11, “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” God never makes such a promise about our words. The author stated that he wanted this book to accomplish God’s purpose and that will happen only if it remains faithful to his words.
This book won’t work magic or make your problems disappear. The author hopes God will use it to help you and I regardless of the difficulties we face. Mr. Alcorn prays that the readers of “If God Is Good” will not only find help for themselves but life changing insights to share with others – believers and unbelievers, family and friends and neighbors and co-workers in their time of greatest need.
May our loving Father continue to bless and keep you. Love you.
